Members of Congress Request 50th Anniversary Commemorative stamp

We are very grateful to Congressman John Lewis, who has spearheaded efforts to realize a 50th Anniversary commemorative stamp in honor of civil rights activists Andrew Goodman, James Chaney and Michael Schwerner. He has rallied tremendous support and has presented a letter signed by 37 members of the House and Senate to the Citizen’s Stamp Advisiory Committee, the group responsible for selecting our nation’s commemorative stamps. His letter stresses the need to honor these brave activists “on the fiftieth anniversary of their ultimate sacrifice in the name of American democracy and justice.” View letter from Congress >

UPDATE: Read the New York State Senate Resolution supporting the commemorative stamp, sponsored by Sen. Andrew Lanza.

"The naming of this building for these four individuals is part of the continuing process of healing we have to have in the state of Mississippi," said 2nd District U.S. Rep. Bennie Thompson.
