David Goodman

President

David Goodman is the brother of Andrew Goodman, and the President of The Andrew Goodman Foundation for Social Justice, Human Dignity and Civil Rights. Professionally, Mr. Goodman is a Principal of North Arrows LLC, which specializes in power and energy investments and owns a portion of ISE Corporation of San Diego, specializing in designing and manufacturing hybrid electric drive buses. He is the founder of e-Solar Properties LLC which is a green building real estate developer. In 1980, Goodman founded United American Energy Corp., which owned and managed renewable energy electric generating facilities up to its sale in 2003. Prior to UAE, Mr. Goodman was employed for seven years by Grow Tunneling Corporation, a national leader in constructing large municipal underground public works projects. Mr. Goodman earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Antioch College in 1969 and an M.B.A. from Stanford University in 1971. He is a member of the National Resources Defense Council Global Leadership Council, member of US Green Building Council and member of American Solar Energy Society.

   

Sylvia Golbin Goodman
Executive Director

Sylvia Golbin Goodman is the Executive Director of The Andrew Goodman Foundation. She is married to David Goodman and, together with her husband, took up the work of the Foundation after the death of Carolyn Goodman, David's mother, in 2007. She directs the Andrew Goodman media program and developed the Hidden Heroes Awards. She was Director of Corporate Communications for United American Energy Corp. from 1989 to 2001 and also developed and delivered original leadership training for the company. Before that she was an English teacher, Guidance Counselor and Dean for the NYC Board of Education. Ms. Golbin also trained as a Life Coach and Earth Wisdom Teacher. Her company, Consult North Star, teaches earth-based spirituality and supports personal and social transformation.  She earned a Bachelor's Degree from Connecticut College, a Master of Arts in Education from Syracuse University and a Master of Science in Counseling from Fordham University.  Ms. Golbin is a member of the Executive Committee of the Business Council for Peace.

   

Sylvia A. Harvey

Director

Sylvia A. Harvey is a freelance journalist and the Managing Editor at The Daily Voice. A skilled researcher, thorough reporter, unique interviewer, and poignant storyteller, Ms. Harvey writes with a fresh perspective and interweaves traditional elements of print journalism, web blogging and multimedia.


As a writer, Ms. Harvey has become a more active and engaged community member. She is a mentor at Children of Promise, NYC in New York City. Living out her dedication to the community she has launched, Uplift by SAH, the creative fundraising (event) wing of the Sylvia A. Harvey experience. In addition to serving on the Board of Directors of the Andrew Goodman Foundation, Ms. Harvey received the Foundation’s Andrew Goodman Scholarship in 2007 for her superb academic achievement in studies at the Columbia University School of Journalism and commitment to leadership in journalism. She received a Bachelors of Arts in sociology from Columbia University and a Masters of Science from Columbia's Graduate School of Journalism. Charles Imohiosen
Director

Charles Imohiosen is a first-cousin of Andrew Goodman and has been involved with the Andrew Goodman Foundation for a number of years. He currently works for the Obama Administration in Washington D.C. as Counselor to the Deputy Administrator for the United States Environmental Protection Administration, where he provides policy advice to the Administrator and Deputy Administrator on a wide range of issues, including environmental technology, environmental finance and community engagement. Prior to serving as Counselor to the Deputy Administrator, Charles was Special Assistant to the Senior Policy Counsel to the Administrator, where he worked on climate change, Texas air permitting issues, surface mining, clean water permitting and other regulatory issues, chemical regulation, coal combustion residue, superfund listings, concentrated animal feeding operations, and enforcement issues.

Before joining USEPA in June 2009, Charles was an Associate at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison, where he advised numerous Fortune 100 companies, including energy companies and insurance companies, investment banks, and hedge funds on commercial litigation defense strategies, and serveral not-for-profit companies pro bono on election law and incorporation issues.

Charles has a long history of working on local community, political and civic engagement issues, having served as a local Democratic District Leader for the Upper West Side of Manhattan, an advisor to Assemblywoman Linda Rosenthal, a representative to the Lincoln Square Business Improvement District, a director for the Lincoln Square Neighborhood Center and a director for his building cooperative. He graduated from Williams College with Honors in 1997, Harvard Law School in 2002, and served as law clerk to a federal judge in the Southern District of New York from 2003-2004.

   

Gwenn Karel Levine, Ph.D.

Director

Gwenn Karel Levine is President of the Paterson Youth Photography Project, which she founded in 2001. She created the nonprofit organization with the mission of enriching the lives of local youth in Paterson, NJ by introducing them to photography as a means for self-expression and an opportunity for personal growth. Through its diverse programs, PYPP has given underserved youth in that community a sense of self-worth and pride in their accomplishments and abilities.

Prior to founding PYPP, Dr. Levine was a health planner for the Bergen-Passaic Health Systems Agency in Hackensack, NJ, followed by 18 years as Vice President of Strategic Planning at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Paterson. While at St. Joseph’s, she was instrumental in founding the Paterson Alliance, a coalition of non-profit agencies that provided a forum for networking, discussion, advocacy, and collaboration.  She developed The Healthy Paterson Project, a collaborative partnership between St. Joseph’s and three faith-based food distribution centers to provide health screening and education. Dr. Levine became an independent consultant in 1999, providing community building, strategic planning, and data analysis services to hospitals and non-profit organizations

Dr. Levine is a Member of the Board of Trustees, CUMAC, 1999-present; Vice President/Secretary, Paterson Alliance, 2002-2008; President, Healthcare Planning and Marketing Society of NJ, 1986. She has received several honors including the Hidden Heroes Award from The Andrew Goodman Foundation, 2009 (for her work with PYPP); Community Service Award from CUMAC, 2009; and Leadership Award in Community Service from Paterson Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies, 2003. She is also an alumni of the Creating Healthier Communities Fellowship Program, San Francisco, CA, 1999 and Leadership Paterson, Paterson, NJ, 1998. She received a B.A. degree with honors in political science from Brandeis University and then an M.A. and Ph.D. in political science from Fordham University.

   

Edward Lowenthal
Director

Mr. Lowenthal is one of two Co-founders of the Wellsford Group of public and private companies. He served as President and CEO of its NYSE listed REIT, Wellsford Residential Property Trust from its IPO in 1992 to its merger with Equity Residential Property Trust (NYSE:  EQR) in 1997.  Subsequently he served in the same positions for its AMEX listed real estate merchant banking company, Wellsford Real Properties, Inc. until 2002.  It merged with Reis, Inc. in 2007 and he continues to serve as a Director of Reis. Currently Mr. Lowenthal is Co-Managing Member of Wellsford Strategic Partners LLC, a private investment firm organized to acquire real estate special situations including equity and debt investments. 

Mr. Lowenthal presently serves as a non-executive Director of three NYSE listed real estate companies (Omega Healthcare Investors, Inc.; Desarolladora Homes, S.A. de C.V; and American Campus Communities, and of Reis, Inc.) Previously he has served as a director of EQR and as a member of the Board of Governors of the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts from 1992-2000. Mr. Lowenthal serves as a Trustee of The Manhattan School of Music and is Chairman of its Executive and Finance Committees. He received a B.A. degree from Case Western Reserve University in 1966 and a J.D. degree from Georgetown University Law Center in 1969, where he was an editor of the Georgetown University Law Journal. Mr. Lowenthal is Andrew Goodman's first cousin.

   

Jennifer Rogers Carlock

Director

Jennifer Rogers Carlock is an award winning New York-based financial reporter and anchor. She currently works for Reuters Insider, interviewing newsmakers and covering breaking business news for the world’s leading business news service. Most recently, she worked for CNN covering personal finance and business trends. She covered the collapse of the dot.com bubble, the Enron bankruptcy and ensuing trials, all while reporting stock market news live from the New York Stock Exchange, the NASDAQ and the Instinet trading floor. From hostile takeover bids to shareholder lawsuits and proxy fights, Ms. Rogers has had a front row seat to the top business news stories of the day, interviewing a who’s who of CEOs and business leaders along the way.

As a correspondent for CNN and its sister networks, Ms. Rogers also reported on a wide range of general news stories ranging from California natural disasters to the Oscars to the Elizabeth Smart abduction. She began her work at CNN as a producer on the network's flagship business program "Moneyline." Producing for the likes of Lou Dobbs, Willow Bay and Stuart Varney, Ms. Rogers learned the beat from some of the top names in business news. Before joining CNN, she worked for MSNBC's Emmy award winning technology show "The Site." In addition, she has reported for PBS’s CEO Exchange. Ms. Rogers graduated cum laude from Wellesley College. She has two children and often wrote about family finance issues for Conde Nast’s Cookie Magazine. She is a cancer survivor and a member of the New York chapter of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
